The Green Mobile Award
Etisalat, Qualcomm, D-Tree International and Great Connection Inc. – Etisalat Mobile Baby
A telecom site of Indus uses energy sources like Grid power, Diesel Generator (DG) & Batteries. DG & batteries are used due to unreliable electricity supply in India. Our operations run in 16 telecom circles of India & in certain geographies where there is no electricity supply at all. Indus cell sites have telecom equipment which requires 24×7, 365 days continuous power supply to support the service. This project was conceived to run telecom network operations without using Diesel as power backup. In FY11-12 Indus focused on making cities Green but there is a huge opportunity in many pockets where this will not be feasible. However, site level transformation into Green is possible. Thus a need was felt to transform the project focus to a more micro level. The focus of the project was changed from ‘Green City’ to ‘Green Sites’. Currently Indus has 17500 green sites.

“This solution fundamentally improves the financial and ecological challenges associated with providing access to communications for the next billion global users”
