8b. Women4Tech – Mobile Industry Leadership (Individuals)

GSMA Women4Tech is focused on successfully addressing the gender gap in the mobile industry by showcasing this issue and industry action, and building networks for future action at GSMA events. Gender equality in technology strengthens the industry and builds valuable professional communities and networks. It also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and in particular SDG 5: “to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”.

Collectively, we are driving the greater inclusion of women and girls in the mobile and digital ecosystem through improving gender equality in education, the industry and the economy.

With the support from the public and private sector, globally, Women4Technology focuses on four key areas:

  • Empowering Technology:
    e.g. Equality in the Workplace, Career Development, Talent Retention
  • Encouraging Technology:
    e.g. Mentorship Programmes, Education and Youth Programmes
  • Transforming Technology:
    e.g.  Communication & Media, Business Verticals (Fintech, Retail, Automotive)
  • Innovating in Technology:
    e.g. Entrepreneurship, Startups and  Incubators Supporting Women and App Development

We are therefore seeking – nominations and entries of individuals that highlight and reflect the role of women in these areas.

This special Women4Tech Award recognizes and celebrates leadership in the establishment of initiatives by people within the industry (males & females) to encourage and retain women and girls in the telecommunications industry or in the larger mobile entrepreneurial ecosystem.

This category is free to enter. We seek nominations for individuals that have made an outstanding contribution to closing the industry gender gap.

The Deadline for entries is Wednesday 23rd November 2016
The Shortlist will be published in late January 2017
Winners will be announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona 27th February – 2nd March 2017

Process

Below you will find information on eligibility, criteria, supporting materials as well as the questions that you will be asked on the entry form.

Please also refer to the Rules of Entry and frequently asked questions sections for additional information. To begin your entry, click the ‘Enter Here’ button, and complete the registration information. Once underway, you can save, return to and amend your entry at any time until you formally submit.

The judges will review and score your entry on the basis of the information that you provide in answer to the questions, so please be as accurate and succinct as possible.

Note on The Importance of Video as part of your entry: While you can also add supporting materials in the form of documents, news coverage, presentations or video within the entry form.

Eligibility

The GSMA Women4Tech – Mobile Industry Leadership Award is open to all individuals – in the broad mobile industry to submit nominated candidates that have made a difference, for this award, e.g.:

  • Mobile network operators and their partner organisations
  • Equipment manufacturers
  • Content providers or aggregators
  • Application & Software Developers
  • Communication and Media sectors
  • Entrepreneurship and Startup ecosystem
  • Education and Youth sectors

Criteria

Successful entries will be able to nominate candidates that have driven, designed and achieved successful implementation of initiatives that support women in the digital economy by encouraging, retaining and promoting women in the mobile industry as employees and leaders. Entrants should be able to highlight a candidate’s achievements in at least two of the criteria below:

  • Good practice in commercial and personnel policies that have fostered female leadership
  • Addressing of barriers to female retention and leadership in the mobile sector, such as lack of recognition by industry leaders of the financial and social benefits of integrating more women into their businesses
  • Development of a corporate policy that aligns female-oriented policies with commercial performance of the company
  • Encouraged and supported investment to employ more females in the technology industry through initiatives such as encouraging female students in STEM, supporting female entrepreneurs, developing mentorship programs, etc.
  • Encouragement of women in the larger mobile ecosystem including app development, investment in STEM programmes, etc.

You can submit additional materials to support your entry through direct upload on the entry form. These are not mandatory, but will help judges with additional context to the nomination. Please keep supporting information submitted to a maximum of:

  • A link to one x 3 minute (maximum) video
  • Up to three x 1 page documents (word, pdf, ppt) with further information, images, graphics etc.
  • Up to three x web pages (which should be very specific to the entry) linked by URLs

Video: Please provide a URL link to your video on the entry form (e.g. via YouTube, Vimeo or other public, English language video platforms) and if required, please make sure you provide a password. Videos should ideally be in the English language or with English subtitles.

Other supporting information Documents can include data, extracts from analysts’ reports, testimonials or press articles, graphics etc. Please do make sure this supporting information is succinct and clear.

Web pages: If pointing judges to a website within your supporting materials or entry, please include a URL which is to very specific information relating to your entry, up to a maximum of three web pages, as judges will not have time to search websites looking for the pertinent information.

The on-line entry form includes an upload facility for you to provide the above links and documents. You will have the ability to upload three additional files to accompany your entry. These can be pdfs, jpegs, Word documents or PowerPoint, but please, as above, keep these relevant to your entry.
