Category 5: Best Mobile Handsets & Devices
There are five sub-categories in Best Mobile Handsets & Devices, which are not open for entry as they are based on nominations submitted and decided by our specialist judging panel. The five sub-categories are as follows:
5a. Best Smartphone
5b. Best Featurephone or entry level phone
5c. Device Manufacturer of the Year
5d. Best Mobile Tablet
5e. Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet at Mobile World Congress 2013
The ultimate mobile industry awards for mobile devices, recognise the combination of leading edge design, technical excellence & innovation, intuitive features and functionality, pricing, performance and ultimately user demand that come together to position mobile handsets and devices not just as market leaders, but as industry game changers.
As the awards are for the best products that are available on the market in 2012, we also have a category for the best brand new handsets and devices seen which are launched or unveiled specifically at the Mobile World Congress in 2013.
Nominations for this category, are sought from and discussed by a panel of world leading independent journalists, analysts, academics and commentators, who will shortlist and decide the ultimate winner.
Criteria:
Our judges will assess and select handsets, devices and tablets based on the following criteria:
- Physical design innovation and form factor
- Device performance such as HTTP throughout, WEB Browser elapsed time, RX sensitivity, relative call set up and success rate
- Multi Band support
- Product usefulness in terms of functionality and features
- Simplicity of use – such as an intuitive user interface
- Wide range of applications and features supported
- Unique attributes
- Price point versus Value for money
- Market success
- User experience (battery life, talk time, call quality, personalisation)
Process:
The judges will submit a list of five to ten nominations in each sub-category. Once received, we may be in touch with the nominees to request devices for further detailed evaluation, should they be required. The judges will then meet in person in early January 2013 to discuss and decide the winners in each sub-category.
The shortlist will be published by the GSMA in January 2013, and one winner in each category will be announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Tuesday 26th February 2013.
The final category, Category e). Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet at Mobile World Congress 2013 will be nominated, discussed and decided by the judges during the Mobile World Congress 2013, and the winner will be announced separately, on the last day of the show (28th February 2013).
