About this category:

Mobile services throughout the world are today delivering entertainment, information, networking and fun on the move to millions of users. The opportunities for the entertainment, media, and computing industries to exploit the mobile medium are limitless. No other distribution channel puts such a wealth of multimedia content directly in to the hands of users via a ubiquitous device - that's always on and always engaged.

Mobile entertainment is now a keystone of growth strategies for both the mobile and entertainment industries. Reflecting this opportunity, five specific Best Mobile Entertainment Awards will be presented by the GSMA as part of the 2008 Global Mobile Awards.

The judges will choose the best entry for each category where the content has been optimised for the mobile screen and innovatively applied to produce a compelling user attraction. The focus of these awards will be on compelling content that captures the imagination of mobile users.


Eligibility:

Each category is open to companies and organisations that develop, publish or deliver Mobile products, applications, services, portals or content. These include:

Judging criteria:

Entries can only be submitted for products that are commercially available. The product or service entered must have been launched after December 1st 2006 or will be launched before November 30th 2007.

Entries for each of the five categories of the Mobile Entertainment Award will be judged on the following main criteria:

  1. Entry provides a compelling entertainment experience for users. Content / service is exciting and viral. Judges will expect to see evidence of user take up.
  2. How innovative is the content/service? for example, are the graphics unique? Has the content ever previously been available to mobile users etc?
  3. In what ways does the entry make good use of mobility - for example, could a multi-player game be played regardless of the player's location, can you share content with other users etc?
  4. Relevant for a Mobile Experience: Entries should support 'instant gratification', 'content snacking' (view thumbnails), ease of download, has a relevance to users, regardless of location
  5. For the Social Networking Category, (1d) judges will be looking for entries that demonstrate user interest and enrolment, with provide examples of compelling, exciting, fun or serious content uploaded by users that showcase the 'spirit' of the site
  6. Entries should demonstrate a clear and responsible policy for content control, showing how sites and content is moderated to eliminate the upload of inappropriate content.
  7. Virality' of the content and the potential for users to share content simply with minimum investment in time and effort

Entry Forms:

In order to ensure a consistent approach for our judges, entries must be submitted using the Mobile Entertainment Award entry form. Entries not using the web based entry form will not be considered. All entries must be submitted by November 30th 2007.

Entrants are encouraged and expected to submit on line supporting materials illustrating their specific content or service on a mobile phone, or with screen shots & videos. These can be either a .jpeg (for pictures), .mpeg (for video), URLs for portals or emulators, or .doc (for SMS) formats.

An additional upload facility will be provided via a link in your confirmation email once your entry has been submitted. You will have the ability to upload 3 additional files to accompany your entry up to a maximum file size of 10MB each.

Other formats will be considered upon request to upload@globalmobileawards.com If using sound, entries should be submitted with English language voice-overs or if not possible, they MUST be supported an English translation of the script.
