7a. Best Mobile Broadband Technology

The now pervasive roll-out of 3G and HSPA coupled with aggressive market tariffing and the new breed of smartphones and dongles has signalled the arrival of mobile broadband as the preferred method for going on line for millions of customers worldwide. Mobile broadband (including EDGE, 3G, 3.5G, HSPA and now LTE technologies) is now the critical revenue driver for many mobile operators and today competes effectively against many wireline offerings. Mobile broadband has taken mobile into the home and office and heralds a new era in the way we communicate.

The Best Mobile Broadband Technology award recognises the new wave of wireless business opportunities in this rapidly developing sector.

The judges will shortlist five entries in this category, with one winner announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Tuesday 28th February 2012.

Eligibility:

Entry is open to all players in the Mobile Broadband eco-system as below, and all participating organisations that are developing a wide range of advanced mobile broadband solutions.

Entry is open to:

  • Mobile Network Operators using the GSM (EDGE, 3G, HSPA, LTE) family of mobile broadband
  • Radio & Packet Core network Infrastructure suppliers
  • Back-haul transmission suppliers including ‘off-loading’ techniques
  • Suppliers of network technologies supporting the core and radio network
  • Broadband service platforms or service enhancement capabilities such as data compression, encoding, optimisation
  • Entries that have been developed as a result of partnerships between Operators & 3rd parties demonstrating novel use of mobile broadband

The product or service entered must have been launched and commercially available prior to the closing deadline of the awards Wednesday 07th December 2011 at 5pm (GMT). Please provide evidence in your entry to support this such as launch date of the service, including details of countries or regions where the service is available.

Judging criteria:

Entries for the Best Mobile Broadband Technology category will be judged on the following main criteria:

  • In what demonstrable ways does your technology enhance the mobile broadband experience for users?
  • What is the key aspect of innovation related to your product or service?
  • What aspects of your broadband technology is unique or different?
  • What data speed or capacity gains does your product or service bring and how will this manifest itself in the user experience?
  • Is your new technology applicable to multiple markets on a global scale?
  • In addition, the judges will consider new or recent innovation incorporated in this product or service
