Category 6: Best Technology Awards

6d – Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough

About this category:

This is a new category for the 2009 Global Mobile Awards and is aimed at recognising the tremendous diversity of the mobile eco-system as it continues to innovate and add new dimensions to the customer experience. So the Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough Award has been introduced to recognise the very many technological advances our industry sees each year outside of the core network infrastructure and radio access (which have their own award – see 6a Best Network Technology Advance).

The Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough award recognises the contribution that Mobile Operators, manufacturers, and suppliers make to increase mobile usage, expand the user experience, and help expand business opportunities. Examples of this are:

Handset and Device accessories such as chargers, plug in screens and/or keyboards, presentation aids, dongles, etc.

  • Support to handset enrichment such as new screen technology, browsers, operating systems, battery life extensions
  • Support to multi language environments
  • Components and Chip Sets, semi conductors, used in network equipment, handsets/Devices or anywhere else in the mobile system
  • New hardware breakthroughs or development in materials leading to lighter, cheaper, longer lasting products
  • Planning tools and support systems to help operators design, provision and operate their networks
  • IT and IS innovation in the mobile world

Please Note: The presentation of this award will be made during a special Mobile World Congress conference session in Barcelona (16-19 February 2009). Full details of the presentations will be confirmed nearer the time. Summarised highlights of all category 6 awards will be featured during the GSMA's Awards Night Gala Dinner on the evening of Tuesday 17th February 2009.

Eligibility:

The category is open primarily to those organisations supporting the mobile industry as part of their wider business operations, such as chip set manufacturers or semi-conductor suppliers, consultants but is also open to conventional vendors to the mobile industry as well as mobile operators themselves.
