The GSMA’s CEO Award for Overall Contribution to the Environment is designed to recognise outstanding environmental performance through innovative, sustainable business practices on a significant industry moving scale.

The Award honours personal or organisation–wide achievement in the area of environmental responsibility, notably tangible progress by organisations either within or in support of the mobile industry, through innovative use of the mobile platform, to tackle climate change challenges on a global basis. This discretionary award is a personal honour for the recipient who is chosen by the GSMA’s CEO alone. Entries are not required for this award.

"It is an honour to accept this on behalf of the thousands of Nokia people who have made sustainable, environmentally sensitive practices an integral part of our day to day business," said Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEO of Nokia on accepting the inaugural Environmental Contribution award in 2009. "We feel we have a responsibility to make a difference, even in these tough economic times, where environmental sustainability is not just the right thing to do, it is the only thing to do and makes good business sense,"
