1b) Best Mobile Music or Video Service

The Best Mobile Music or Video Service category aims to attract the very best in innovative music and video download or streaming services across the world and across the mobile value chain. Judges will be looking for innovation behind content and services that deliver compelling multimedia to users, drive new revenue streams and demonstrate widespread take up of exciting new services. The judges will shortlist five entries in this category, with one winner announced at the GSMA’s Global Mobile Awards Gala Dinner at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on the evening of Tuesday 17th February 2009.

Eligibility:

This category is open to companies and organisations that create, develop or deliver mobile music or video services and content. Entrants are requested to submit compelling, creative content that captures the imagination and provides a new level of entertainment experience for mobile users around the world.

Eligible companies include:


  • Mobile Network Operators
  • Application Developers, Content Owners and Providers (such as broadcast, media companies, record companies etc.)
  • Device manufacturers
  • Portal provisioning providers and content aggregators
  • Publishers - all players in the mobile entertainment value chain that provide products or services to networks
  • Entries that have been developed as a result of partnerships between Operators & content owners/providers will also be welcomed as joint entries.

Judging criteria:

Entries can only be submitted for Mobile Music or Video Services that are commercially available. The service entered must have been launched between December 1st 2007 and the closing date of the GSMA’s Global Mobile Awards (5pm GMT) on 28th November 2008. Please provide evidence to support this such as launch date of the service, including details of countries or regions where the service is available.

Entries for Best Mobile Music or Video Service will be judged on the following main criteria:


  • The content or service provides a compelling entertainment experience for users
  • The content or service is exciting (Judges expect to see evidence of user take up)
  • Is the service live? What kind of content is offered, if music, how many tracks/videos does the user have access to? What technology underlies it? Has the content ever previously been available to mobile users etc?
  • 'Cool factor' or appeal of the content available
  • Ease of use/simplicity
  • Revenues generated to date
  • Value for money
  • Peer to peer interaction
  • How viral is the content/service?
  • Responsible approaches to protecting users from unwanted, obtrusive or offensive content

Entry forms, supporting materials & formats:

In order to ensure a consistent approach for our judges, entries must be submitted using the Category 1b) Best Mobile Music or Video Service entry form. Entries not using the web based entry form will not be considered. All entries must be submitted by 28th November 2008 (5pm GMT).

Entrants are expected to submit on line supporting materials illustrating their specific content or service with screen shots & videos. These can be either a .jpeg (for pictures), .mpeg (for video) or .ppt for powerpoint.

An additional upload facility will be provided via a link in your confirmation email once your entry has been submitted. You will have the ability to upload 3 additional files to accompany your entry up to a maximum file size of 10MB each.

Other formats will be considered upon request to upload@globalmobileawards.com If using sound, entries should be submitted with English language voice-overs or if not possible, they MUST be supported by an English translation of the script.

Specific Entry Form Questions:

On the entry form, in addition to submitting contact and company information, you will be asked to answer the following questions (maximum text/character length for your answers also shown in brackets below):


  • What is the brand or name of your entered music or Video service or content service i.e. the entry? (100 characters = approx 20 words)
  • Is this a joint entry? If so. Who are the partnering organisations?
  • Entries for this award category must be commercially available IN AT LEAST ONE market. Please provide evidence to support this such as launch date of service or content, including details of countries/ regions where the service of content is available and, specifically, which mobile operators offer your service or content. (1000 characters = approx 170 words)
  • Please describe the service? What kind of music/video content is offered? (1500 characters = approx 250 words)
  • What attracts users to visit, download, buy and return to the service? How much does it cost to subscribe and to download? (1000 characters = approx 170 words)
  • What is innovative or unique about your service or content? What makes users want to view, download, listen and share? What is so compelling for users? (1000 characters = approx 170 words)
  • What makes the service easy to use? (1000 characters = approx 170 words)
  • What is the business model? (1000 characters = approx 170 words)
  • Are users protected from unwanted, obtrusive or offensive content? How is this service monitored to ensure best regulatory practice? (1000 characters = approx 170 words)
  • Please provide sales figures. Please explain why it is good value for users? (1000 characters = approx 170 words)

Please note: Use URLs when they are specific/ relevant to the category and will help judges further understand your entry, but due to the number of entries received, judges will not have time to surf company websites looking for further information on the entered product/service or initiative.
