1a) Best Mobile Game

The Best Mobile Game category recognises the most innovative, compelling and creative 'published' mobile game available on the market today.

From single player and connected games to location based, casual, educational, 3D and games using the camera, motion sensors, GPS enabled or other features, the awards judges will be looking for a breakthrough in technology and the creation of a new level of mobile gaming experience for gamers on mobile phones.

The judges will shortlist four to six entries in this category, with one winner announced at the world’s leading mobile communications event, the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Tuesday 16th February 2010.

Please note: On-line or Mobile Games which have strong social networking elements included such as Blogs, Chat, media file Sharing/ Uploads, mail etc should strongly consider entering Category 3b Best Mobile Internet Service, which includes mobile social networking services.

Eligibility:

The Best Mobile Game category is open to companies and organisations that develop, publish or deliver Mobile Games. Eligible companies include:

Mobile Network Operators
Games Publishers
Gaming Application Developers
Content Owners and Providers
Device manufacturers
Or partnerships between any of the above

Judging criteria:

Mobile games entered should be commercially available, and must have been launched prior to the closing deadline of the awards Monday 23rd November 2009 (5pm GMT). The mobile game must have been available in at least one country/ market. Please provide evidence to support this such as launch date of the game, including details of countries or regions where the game is available, together with reviews if possible, and statistical evidence of market success or take up.

Entries for the Best Mobile Game will be judged on the following main criteria:

The game provides a compelling entertainment experience for users i.e. the game is exciting
Judges will expect to see evidence of download or sales statistics, or if the game is free, advertising income/ number of downloads.
It is genuinely innovative, or unique in terms of a breakthrough in technology, graphics or usability
It makes good use of mobility - for example, a multi-player game could be played regardless of the player's (or players') location or operator
'Cool factor' or appeal of the content delivered
Ease of use/simplicity
Revenues generated to date
Value for money
Playing time provided

Entry forms, supporting materials & formats:

All entries must be submitted by Monday 23rd November 2009 (5pm GMT).

In order to ensure a consistent approach for our judges, entries must be submitted using the Category 1a) Best Mobile Game entry form . Entries not using the web based entry form will not be considered. In addition to completing the online entry form, it is strongly recommended that entrants submit a demonstration of the entry so that our judges can see and play with it.

You can do this in the following ways:

Preferably by submitting a handset with the Mobile game pre-loaded for our judges to assess, experience and play the game. (Details of submitting a handset below), or
By providing a link to a PC emulator for the game running on the web, on your entry form, or
Provide a link to a video demonstrating the game, or upload to a video on our upload facility. An upload facility for videos will be provided to you via a link in our confirmation email, once your entry has been submitted. (You will have the ability to upload a maximum of 3 files to accompany your entry up to a maximum file size of 10MB each).

Submitting a handset with the Mobile Game pre-loaded:

Following submission on-line of your web entry, you will be allocated a unique reference number by email Supporting handsets /devices must arrive at the GSMA (at the address below) after 5th October 2009 and by no later than 30th November 2009.

Specific Entry Form Questions:

On the entry form, in addition to submitting contact and company information, you will be asked to answer the following questions (maximum text/character length for your answers also shown in brackets below):

What is the name of your entered mobile game (i.e. the entry)? (100 characters = approx 20 words).
Is this a joint entry? If so. Who are the partnering organisations? (100 characters = approx 20 words)
Entries for this award category must be commercially available IN AT LEAST ONE market. Please provide evidence to support this such as launch date of service or content, including details of countries/ regions where the game is available and, specifically, which operators or devices offer your game. (500 characters = approx 80 words)
Please describe how the game is played i.e. what is it about, what are the objectives? (1500 characters = approx 250 words)
If demonstrating online, please provide a URL to your product demo on line, or state whether you wish to upload your demo to our server? (500 characters = approx 80 words)
What is specifically unique or innovative about your submitted game? e.g. graphics, characters, effects or a technology breakthrough, for example. (1000 characters = approx 170 words)
What is so compelling about the game that makes players want to download, play it, and return to it? (1000 characters = approx 170 words)
In what ways does the entry make good use of mobility? For example, could a multi-player game be played regardless of operator? (1000 characters = approx 170 words)
How much does it cost to download, what playing time is provided? Why is it good value for money and what makes it simple to use? (1000 characters = approx 170 words)
Please provide sales statistics, or if the game is free, advertising income or the number of downloads since launch, or on a monthly basis? (1000 characters = approx 170 words)

Please note: Use URLs when they are specific/ relevant to the category and will help judges further understand your entry, but due to the number of entries received, judges will not have time to surf company websites looking for further information.
